I recently finished Why We Sleep by Dr. Matthew Walker. As someone who has had the good fortune of sleeping quite well for most of my life I was somewhat reluctant to read this book. However, this book has proven to be chock-full of interesting information on both the science of, and practical tips for better sleep.
One of the most interesting pieces of the book centered around the effectiveness of vaccines to produce antibodies in a person given how well rested they are. This is information seems critical to communicate widely to the public at large prior to an anticipated Covid-19 Vaccine later this year, or early next.
This book has left me viewing my sleep with much more reverance, and doing as much as I can to protect this portion of my day (goodbye evening Coke Zeros :( ). I would highly recommend this book to others who are interested in learning a bit more about the state where most of us spend 1/3 of our lives.
I’ll leave you with a video of Dr. Walker summarizing a few of the points from his book in the below TED talk.
